About
Jonathon ‘Jono’ Bryant is a professional expedition leader and wilderness medicine instructor. Along with fellow expedition expedition leaders, first-aid instructors and professional health-care providers ‘SPECIALIZED WILDERNESS MEDICINE’ was conceived. Dedicated to providing environment specific wilderness medical training and support throughout the world. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training courses are offered in the US, although our specialized WFR and Expedition Medic training programmes are unique. Currently a High Altitude WFR based in the Himalaya’s, Northern India and a Tropical WFR operating out of Belize in Central America. Covering all the essential curriculum for a normal WFR these classes provide more hands on skills and extra lessons in expedition management and environment specific issues. Our Expedition medic programme travels deep into the jungles of Borneo. Students who already have their WFR or Wilderness Emergency medical Technician (WEMT) qualification work alongside doctors and dentist as part of a medical relief project.
This blog discusses medical issues and problems that have arisen on expeditions I’ve led and other professionals working for ’specialized wilderness medicine’. We also post comments on new equipment and gear that can be handy on an expedition, or simply a point of reference for the outdoor enthusiast. I’ll keep you updated on forthcoming expeditions and let you know what the team are up to.
